Mesa Arch in Winter
We headed out at 4:30 a.m. Black ice made the drive interesting. Wind chill below zero. Full moon to the west cast the Arch's shadow into Buck Canyon below. We hiked in, set up and waited for the sun. The spectacular lava-orange glow that fills the portal never disappoints. Less than 10 minutes later a dense fog rolled in and completely filled the canyon below the Arch.
Dead Horse Point
With great trails and superb views of the 300 million year old red, purple and yellow rock layers, Dead Horse Point State Park outside Moab is one of our favorites. Sharing borders with Canyonlands National Park, this is one place where you should always have your cameras ready.
